Mental Toolkit Explained: Reboot, Rewire, and Recovery

The Mental Toolkit is a library of guided video exercises in Sanctuary organised into three categories: Reboot for quick mid-session resets, Rewire for deeper emotional conditioning work, and Recovery for end-of-day closure. This article explains what each category is for, what tools it contains, and when to use them.

The Mental Toolkit sits in the lower half of Sanctuary. It is a curated library of guided video exercises built specifically for the psychological demands of active trading. The content was developed by a trading performance coach and covers the emotional patterns that cause the most damage to a trader's consistency: tilt, revenge trading, overconfidence, loss aversion, and the inability to detach emotionally from individual trades.

The toolkit is organised into three categories that map to three distinct emotional states and three different points in a trading day.

Reboot: Quick Reset Tools

The Reboot category contains the shortest, fastest tools in the toolkit. They are designed for use before or after a single trade when you are feeling tilted, anxious, or emotionally reactive and need to return to a neutral state as quickly as possible. Reboot tools are not designed for deep reflection or pattern work. They are designed to break a feedback loop fast so you can make your next decision from a clear head rather than an emotional one.

When to use Reboot

  • You just took a loss and feel the urge to immediately re-enter the market.
  • You are feeling frustrated, rushed, or impatient mid-session.
  • You noticed you placed a trade outside your plan and want to reset before placing another.
  • You are approaching your max trades limit and want to pause intentionally before continuing.

Rewire: Emotional Conditioning

The Rewire category contains longer, deeper tools designed for emotional conditioning work. Where Reboot addresses how you feel right now, Rewire addresses the patterns underneath. These tools are used after an intense session or emotionally significant trade, when there is something more durable to work through than a single reaction.

When to use Rewire

  • You overtraded today and the session reflected a pattern you have seen before, not a one-off event.
  • You are struggling with confidence after a losing streak and it is affecting your willingness to take valid setups.
  • You keep cutting winners early or holding losers too long, and you know it is emotional rather than strategic.
  • You find yourself attaching your self-worth to individual trade outcomes rather than to your process.
  • You want to build a stronger relationship with discipline and consistency as an identity, not just a set of rules.

Recovery: Wind-Down Rituals

The Recovery category contains end-of-day and post-session closure tools. Their purpose is to help you mentally close the trading day so that the emotions from today do not carry into tomorrow. Emotional carryover is one of the most underestimated causes of next-day performance degradation. A loss you have not processed by bedtime often shows up as aggression or recklessness the following morning.

When to use Recovery

  • You finished a losing day and are feeling the pull to open trades outside your normal session hours to recover.
  • You had a big winning day and feel the overconfidence that often precedes a blow-up.
  • You took a revenge trade and want to process what happened before tomorrow.
  • You are finding it difficult to mentally stop thinking about the market after closing your platform.
  • You are approaching sleep and your mind is still running over trades from the session.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the right category?

Consider your time and emotional state: use Reboot if mid-session and reactive, Rewire if reflecting post-session, and Recovery to close out your day. The tilt banner suggests tools based on your trading behavior.

Can I use tools from different categories together?

Yes. For example, finish trading, run a Reboot to decompress, then a Recovery tool before journaling. Use any combination that suits you.

Does using the Mental Toolkit log to my session history?

Only meditation timer sessions are logged. Toolkit usage is tracked for personalization but doesn’t create session entries.

Can I adjust the video playback speed?

No, playback speed control isn't available. Videos are paced intentionally by the coach.

Will more tools be added?

Yes, the toolkit is expanding. Check the EdgeFlo changelog or contact support for updates.
