Connecting a Broker Account

A connected broker account is required to use EdgeFlo's execution, risk calculation, journaling, and guardrail features. EdgeFlo supports MT4, MT5, and cTrader. This article covers how to connect each broker type and what to do if the connection fails.

Connecting your broker account is the first step to getting full value from EdgeFlo. Once connected, your trades, balances, and positions sync automatically in real time and the full platform becomes available.

Connecting a MetaTrader account (MT4 or MT5)

What you need before connecting

You can find all of these details in your broker or prop firm portal, or in the welcome email they sent when you created the account.

  • Login ID - your MetaTrader account number. This is not your email address.
  • Master password - not the investor (read-only) password. The investor password will connect but will disable trading.
  • Server name - copy this exactly as shown in your MetaTrader terminal. One wrong character or a hidden space will cause the connection to fail.
  • MetaTrader version - confirm whether your account is MT4 or MT5. These are different and cannot be swapped.

Where to find your server name in MetaTrader: on desktop, go to Tools > Options > Server. On mobile, go to Settings > Account.

Steps to connect

  1. Open EdgeFlo and go to Settings.
  2. Select the Integrations tab.
  3. Select Connect MetaTrader.
  4. Choose MT4 or MT5 to match your account. If you are unsure, check your broker portal.
  5. Enter your Login ID, Master password, and Server name exactly as shown in your broker details.
  6. Click Connect.

EdgeFlo will validate the account and begin syncing. This can take a minute or two for MetaTrader accounts.

Tip: cTrader connects faster and has fewer sync issues than MetaTrader. If your broker supports cTrader, it is worth using.

Connecting a cTrader account

Steps to connect

  1. Open EdgeFlo and go to Settings.
  2. Select the Integrations tab.
  3. Select Connect cTrader.
  4. Enter your cTrader ID (usually your email address) and password.
  5. Click Log In.
  6. You will see a list of accounts. Select Demo or Live to match the account you want to connect.
  7. Once the accounts load, open the Accounts dropdown and select the specific trading account you want to use.
  8. Click Connect Selected Account.

cTrader connections are typically instant. Once connected, your trades, positions, and balances will begin syncing automatically.

Common connection issues

Issue What to check
Invalid credentials Check that the login ID is your account number (not your email), the password is your master password (not investor), and the MT version matches your account.
Server not found Copy the server name directly from MetaTrader. It must match exactly including capitalisation. Do not type it manually.
MT4 vs MT5 mismatch The version selected in EdgeFlo must match the version of the account. Check your broker portal to confirm which version the account uses.
Hidden spaces If you copied and pasted the server name or login details, a hidden space may have been included. Clear the field and re-enter manually.
Trade button is greyed out after connecting This means the investor password was used instead of the master password. Disconnect and reconnect using the master password.
Broker not supported Some brokers are not currently supported via MetaTrader on EdgeFlo. If you see this message, check whether your broker offers cTrader, which connects instantly.

Switching or disconnecting an account

You can disconnect your broker account at any time from Settings > Integrations. There are no restrictions on disconnecting.

To replace a connected account with a different one, use the Replace account option. Accounts can be replaced once every 24 hours.

Important: When you replace an account, broker-imported trades from the previous account are removed from your history. Manually entered trades are not affected.

FAQ

Why does EdgeFlo need my master password?

EdgeFlo requires the master password to enable trade execution through your connected broker account. The investor (read-only) password only allows viewing data. If you connect with the investor password, trading will be disabled and the trade button will appear greyed out.

Can I connect a demo account?

Yes. You can connect a live or demo account on both MT4/MT5 and cTrader. When connecting cTrader, make sure you select the correct account type (Live or Demo) during the login step.

How many broker accounts can I connect?

Basic plan users can connect 1 broker account. Plus plan users can connect up to 3. If you need to connect more than 3 accounts on Plus, additional accounts are available as an add-on from Settings > Billing.

My SL and TP on cTrader look slightly different after the trade is filled. Is that a bug?

No. This is expected behaviour for cTrader. Because cTrader uses pip offsets rather than absolute price levels, a small price movement between when you confirm the trade and when it is filled can shift the final SL and TP slightly. To avoid this, enter SL and TP as pip values directly rather than as absolute price levels.

How long does it take to connect?

cTrader connections are typically instant. MetaTrader connections can take one to two minutes while EdgeFlo syncs your account data.

What if my broker is not supported?

If you see a "Broker not supported" message, your broker is not currently available via MetaTrader on EdgeFlo. Check whether your broker offers a cTrader account, which connects instantly and is fully supported. If you are unsure, contact support and we will advise.
