Understanding Broker Sync

EdgeFlo connects directly to your broker account to sync your balance, positions, and trade history in real time. This article explains what broker sync does, what each sync status means, and what to do when something looks off.

When you connect a broker account, EdgeFlo maintains a live connection to that account to pull in your balance, equity, open positions, pending orders, and closed trade history. This connection is what makes the risk calculator, guardrail enforcement, automatic journaling, and live position tracking possible. Without it, none of those features have real data to work with.

Broker Sync

What sync enables

  • Risk calculator - lot size is calculated against your live account balance in real time
  • Guardrail enforcement - daily loss and profit limits are checked against your actual realised PnL
  • Automatic trade journaling - every trade you place through EdgeFlo is logged with entry, exit, size, and timestamps automatically
  • Live position monitoring - your open trades, floating PnL, and pending orders update continuously in the positions table

The App Synchronization panel

Clicking the sync status in the top bar opens a panel that breaks down the two sync processes individually.

  • Historical Sync: Imports your past trades and fills in any missing trade history from your broker. This runs once when you first connect, and again if there are gaps. It does not affect live data while it is running.
  • Live Sync: Updates today's trades, open positions, and PnL in real time. This is the sync that matters most during an active trading session. If Live Sync is delayed or failed, your dashboard data and guardrail calculations may be working from stale figures.

Sync status indicators

The sync status appears in the left bar of the EdgeFlo interface. Click it at any time to open the App Synchronization panel, which shows the status of both Historical Sync and Live Sync separately.

Status  What it means?  What to do?
Live Both Historical Sync and Live Sync are running normally. All data is current. Nothing. You are good to trade.
Syncing Historical Sync is in progress. Live updates are already working, but past trade history may be incomplete until the import finishes.

Wait for it to complete. Live data and guardrails are active.

Historical data will fill in automatically.

Delayed

Historical Sync is complete, but Live Sync is paused.

Today's trades and PnL may not update until the connection is restored.

Wait a few minutes for the connection to restore automatically. If the issue persists, go to Settings > Integrations and reconnect your broker account.
Disconnected

Both Historical and Live Sync have failed.

Trade data is unavailable and trades cannot be placed through EdgeFlo.

Go to Settings > Integrations and reconnect your broker account.

Your account and any trades placed directly through your broker are not affected.

FAQ

Can I still use EdgeFlo if sync drops briefly?

You can still view the platform, but placing trades through EdgeFlo requires an active sync connection. Any trades placed during a disconnection directly through your broker will reconcile automatically when sync resumes.

Can I connect a demo account?

Yes. Both live and demo accounts are supported on MT4, MT5, and cTrader. All features including guardrails, risk calculation, and journaling work identically on demo accounts.

Can I connect more than one account?

Basic plan users can connect one broker account. Plus plan users can connect up to three. For details on plan limits and add-ons, see Basic vs. Plus Plan: What's Included.

Why does cTrader sync faster than MetaTrader?

cTrader uses a direct OAuth connection which is faster and more reliable. MetaTrader connections go through an intermediary service, which means initial sync takes longer and is more sensitive to server name errors and broker availability.
