The SL/TP toggle in the EdgeFlo trade panel lets you choose how you enter your stop loss and take profit levels. The options depend on the asset class: Price and Pips for Forex, Price and Points for Indices and Metals, Price and Distance for Crypto and Stocks.
When you open the execution panel in EdgeFlo, there is a toggle at the top of the stop loss and take profit section. It controls the format you use to enter your levels. Both modes produce the same trade. The toggle is about how you prefer to think and work.
What the Toggle Does
Each mode lets you express the same stop or target in a different way:
- Price: Enter the exact price level. You type where you want the stop or target to sit.
- Pips, Points, or Distance: Enter the distance from your entry. EdgeFlo converts it to a price level automatically.
Switching between modes updates the input field. The order itself does not change. If you entered a stop in Price mode and switch to Pips mode, the field will show the equivalent distance in pips. The underlying level is the same.
Which Options Are Available by Asset Class
| Asset Class | Toggle Options | Distance Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Forex | Price or Pips | Pips |
| Indices | Price or Points | Points |
| Metals | Price or Points | Points |
| Crypto | Price or Distance | Distance from entry price |
| Stocks | Price or Distance | Distance from entry price |
The toggle only shows modes that make sense for the instrument you are trading. You will not see a Pips option on a gold trade, and you will not see a Points option on a Bitcoin trade.
When to Use Each Mode
Price mode
Use Price mode when you have identified specific levels on the chart, such as a support level, a prior swing low, or a moving average. You are placing your stop at a price the market needs to reach before you are proved wrong. This mode works across all asset classes.
Pips mode (Forex only)
Use Pips mode when you think about your stop in pip terms rather than a specific price level. This is common for forex traders who plan stops as a fixed pip distance from entry. EdgeFlo converts the pip count to a price level using your entry price.
Points mode (Indices and Metals)
Use Points mode when you think about your stop as a distance in points. Index and metals traders often plan this way, setting a stop a certain number of points away from entry. EdgeFlo converts the point distance to a price level automatically.
Distance mode (Crypto and Stocks)
Use Distance mode when you want to enter your stop or target as a numeric distance from your entry rather than an exact price level. You enter how far away the level should sit and EdgeFlo converts it to a price automatically.
Warning: On cTrader accounts, Stop Loss and Take Profit in Distance mode are submitted as an offset from the actual execution price, not from the quoted price when you click the button. If your market order fills at a slightly different price than quoted, your SL and TP levels will be placed relative to the fill price. The difference is usually small but worth being aware of on fast-moving instruments.
How the Toggle Affects the Risk Calculator
The toggle does not change how the risk calculator works. It only changes how you input the stop level. Once the stop is set, the calculator uses the price level to determine position size. The calculated position size, dollar risk, and R:R ratio will be identical whether you entered the stop as a price or as a distance.
Note: When you switch the toggle mode, the input field converts to show the equivalent value in the new unit. This lets you verify the level is what you intended before placing the trade.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the toggle choice affect my actual order?
No. The toggle only changes how you enter the level. On most broker connections, the order sent uses a specific price level regardless of which mode you used to input it. On cTrader, Distance mode submits an offset from execution price rather than a fixed price — see the Warning above for details.
Why does my crypto panel not have a Pips option?
Pips are a forex concept based on a standardized unit of price movement. Crypto instruments do not use pips. The Distance option is the equivalent for crypto and stocks: enter how far from your entry you want the level placed and EdgeFlo handles the conversion.
Can I use different toggle modes for the SL and TP?
No. The toggle applies to both SL and TP at the same time. If you are in Points mode, both fields expect point distances. To mix methods, use Price mode for both and calculate the levels manually.
What happens to my toggle preference between trades?
EdgeFlo remembers your last-used toggle setting for each asset class. You can switch at any time within the panel.
What is the correct unit for XAUUSD stop losses, pips or points?
Points. Gold is not a forex pair and does not use pip-based distance. The toggle for XAUUSD shows Price or Points. If you are used to thinking in pips from forex trading, switch to Price mode and enter your level directly until you get comfortable with point distances on gold.
