How to Create Price Alerts from the Chart

Create price alerts directly from the TradingView chart in EdgeFlo. Click on any price level to set an alert, and the form will auto-fill with the symbol and price. This article covers how to create alerts, set conditions and expiration, and manage your alerts.

You can create price alerts directly from the chart by clicking on the price scale. The alert form auto-fills the symbol and price level you selected, so you can set up notifications for key levels in seconds.

Alerts keep you informed without requiring you to watch the charts constantly. Mark the levels that matter, and EdgeFlo will notify you when price reaches them.

How to Create an Alert from the Chart

Set Alert from Chart
  1. Click on the price level where you want to set an alert on the chart's price scale (the vertical axis on the right side).
  2. A horizontal dashed line will appear at that price level, and a small plus icon will display.
  3. Click the plus icon to open the Create Alert form.
  4. The form will auto-fill with:
    • Symbol: The currency pair you are currently viewing
    • Price: The exact price level you clicked
  5. Configure your alert settings (see below).
  6. Click Create Alert.

Alert Configuration Options

When you create an alert, you can configure the following settings:

Symbol

The currency pair for the alert. This auto-fills with the pair you are viewing, but you can change it using the dropdown menu.

Trigger Type

How many times the alert should trigger:

  • Only Once: The alert triggers the first time price reaches the level, then is automatically removed.
  • Every Time: The alert triggers everytime price reaches the level.

Condition

The price behavior that triggers the alert:

  • Crossing: The alert triggers when price crosses the specified level (from above or below).
  • Crossing Up: The alert triggers when price crosses the specified level from below to above.
  • Crossing Down: The alert triggers when price crosses the specified level from above to below.

Price

The exact price level that triggers the alert. This auto-fills with the level you clicked, but you can edit it manually.

Expiration Date (Optional)

Set a date when the alert should expire if it has not triggered. If you leave this as "No expiry," the alert will remain active until it triggers or you delete it manually.

Message (Optional)

Add a custom message that will appear when the alert triggers. This is useful for reminding yourself why you set the alert (e.g., "Time to buy more!" or "Check for breakout confirmation"). Maximum 200 characters.

Tip: Use descriptive messages like "Support level" or "Take profit target" so you immediately know the context when the alert triggers.

How to View and Manage Your Alerts

Your active alerts are displayed in the Alerts tab on the right side panel of the platform.

  1. Click the Alerts tab (bell icon) in the right panel.
  2. All active alerts will be listed here.
  3. If you have no alerts, you will see "No alerts yet" with a + Create New Alert button.

You can also create alerts using the + Create New Alert button in the Alerts tab. This opens the same Create Alert form, but you will need to manually enter the symbol and price instead of selecting them from the chart.

How Alerts Are Triggered

When price reaches your alert level, EdgeFlo will notify you based on your notification settings. The alert will trigger according to the condition you set (Crossing).

If you set the alert to "Only Once," it will be automatically removed after triggering. If you want to set another alert at the same level, you will need to create a new one.

Note: Alerts are checked against live market data. If the market is closed or your broker connection is interrupted, alerts may not trigger until the connection is restored and price data resumes.

How to Edit or Delete an Alert

To edit or delete an existing alert:

  1. Go to the Alerts tab in the right panel.
  2. Find the alert you want to modify.
  3. Click the alert to open its details.
  4. Edit the settings or click Delete to remove the alert.
Edit Alert

Warning: Deleting an alert cannot be undone. If you delete an alert by mistake, you will need to create a new one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I set multiple alerts on the same currency pair?

Yes. You can create as many alerts as you need for any currency pair. For example, you might set one alert for a support level and another for a resistance level on the same pair.

Do alerts work when EdgeFlo is closed?

Alerts require EdgeFlo to be running and connected to your broker. If you close the platform, alerts will not trigger.

Can I set alerts for pending orders or open positions?

Alerts are independent of your trades. You can set an alert at any price level, whether or not you have a position or pending order at that level. Alerts are for notification only and do not automatically execute trades.

What happens if price gaps through my alert level?

If price gaps over your alert level (for example, during high-impact news or market open), the alert will still trigger when EdgeFlo detects that price has crossed the level. The Crossing condition does not require price to trade exactly at your alert level.

Can I set alerts based on indicators or other conditions?

Currently, alerts are price-based only. You can set an alert to trigger when price crosses a specific level.

How do I receive alert notifications?

Alert notifications appear in EdgeFlo when the alert triggers.
