Using EdgeFlo with a prop firm account

Yes - EdgeFlo works with prop firm accounts. If your prop firm runs on MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader or TradeLocker (coming soon), you can connect your account and use EdgeFlo's full discipline system: risk calculation, guardrails, journaling, and performance tracking. This article explains how to set everything up to match your firm's rules.

Most prop firms give you a funded account on MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader or TradeLocker (coming soon). If yours does, EdgeFlo connects to it the same way it connects to any retail broker account. Once connected, EdgeFlo's guardrails, risk calculator, journal, and performance tracking all apply; and they map directly onto the discipline requirements every prop firm enforces anyway.

Which prop firms are compatible

EdgeFlo works with any prop firm that provides a MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader or TradeLocker (coming soon) account. Firms that use proprietary platforms (such as NinjaTrader or TradeStation) are not currently supported.

How to connect your prop firm account

The connection process is identical to connecting any broker account. Use the login credentials your prop firm provided.

  1. Go to Settings and click the Integrations tab.
  2. Click Connect Account.
  3. Select your platform: MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader or TradeLocker (coming soon).
  4. Enter your prop firm account's Login ID, Password, and Server name exactly as provided by your firm.
  5. Click Connect and wait for the sync to complete.

Tip: Use your master password, not your investor (read-only) password. The investor password connects successfully but prevents EdgeFlo from placing or monitoring trades correctly.

Setting up guardrails to match your firm's rules

Prop firms enforce strict daily drawdown limits, max loss thresholds, and trade count rules. EdgeFlo's guardrails enforce the same categories — so you can mirror your firm's rules inside EdgeFlo and get blocked before you ever breach them.

Go to Settings and open the Trading Preferences tab to configure your guardrails.

Prop firm rule EdgeFlo guardrail to use How to set it
Daily drawdown / max daily loss Max Daily Loss Set to your firm's daily loss limit in your account currency
Maximum loss (overall) Max Daily Loss + discipline habit Set a daily limit that keeps your cumulative exposure well inside the overall cap
Overtrading / trade frequency rule Max Trades Per Day Set to the maximum number of trades your firm permits per day
News trading restriction News Block Enable and set a block window before and after high-impact events
Specific trading hours only Trading Window Set the start and end times your firm allows trading

Tip: Enable Hard Lock Trading at the top of Trading Preferences. When this is on, EdgeFlo removes the "Trade anyway" override once a guardrail fires. For prop firm trading, where a single undisciplined trade can cost you the account, this is worth turning on. See Hard Lock Trading: Enforcing Your Guardrails Without Override.

Setting your risk correctly for a prop firm account

This is the most important configuration step for prop firm traders.

Prop firm accounts have two numbers that matter: the headline account size (e.g. $100,000) and the maximum loss allowed (e.g. $5,000 daily drawdown, $10,000 overall). Most prop traders manage their risk from the drawdown allowance, not the full account size - because blowing the drawdown means losing the account.

EdgeFlo's risk calculator works from the live account balance. To size your trades correctly against your drawdown limit rather than the full balance, set your Fixed Risk % as a percentage of the full balance that equals the dollar amount you actually want to risk.

How to calculate the right risk percentage

  1. Decide how many dollars you want to risk per trade based on your firm's drawdown limit. A common approach: risk 1% of your drawdown allowance per trade.
    • Example: $10,000 drawdown limit. 1% = $100 per trade.
  2. Divide that dollar amount by your full account balance to get the percentage to enter in EdgeFlo.
    • Example: $100 risk on a $100,000 account = 0.10%
  3. Enter this figure in Settings under Fixed Risk Per Trade. EdgeFlo now supports values down to 0.01%, so you have the precision to match even strict firm requirements.
Account size Drawdown limit Risk per trade (1% of drawdown) Fixed Risk % to enter in EdgeFlo
$100,000 $10,000 $100 0.10%
$100,000 $5,000 $50 0.05%
$50,000 $2,500 $25 0.05%
$200,000 $10,000 $100 0.05%

Note: The lot size EdgeFlo calculates will always be based on your account balance and this percentage. As long as you set the percentage using the formula above, the resulting dollar risk per trade will match your target - regardless of the headline account size.

Journaling prop firm trades

Every trade you take on your prop firm account syncs automatically to EdgeFlo's Journal once your account is connected. Entry and exit prices, P&L, commissions, and timestamps all import without any manual input.

From the Journal you can add confluence tags, mistake tags, screenshots, voice notes, and session reflections - the same workflow as any other account. Your weekly AI report and EdgeScore both run on this data.

Warning: Journal data is tied to the specific trading account it was recorded against. If you disconnect your prop firm account and reconnect a new one (for example, after a new challenge phase), previous journal entries will not be visible under the new account. Before switching accounts, export your data from Settings > Data and Privacy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use EdgeFlo during a prop firm challenge?

Yes. Connect your challenge account exactly as you would a live account. EdgeFlo works the same way during an evaluation phase as it does on a funded account. Configure your guardrails to reflect the challenge's specific daily drawdown and maximum loss rules before your first session.

Will EdgeFlo place trades on my behalf or affect my positions automatically?

You place every trade through EdgeFlo's trading panel the same way you would in your broker's platform - EdgeFlo adds a discipline and risk management layer on top of that execution. Your prop firm will see normal trading activity.

Do guardrails apply if I also trade directly from my broker's platform or mobile app?

No. Guardrails only intercept trades placed through EdgeFlo. If you open a trade directly on MetaTrader, cTrader or TradeLocker outside of EdgeFlo, the guardrail does not fire. For prop firm accounts where every trade matters, make EdgeFlo your primary execution point so the protection applies consistently.

Can I connect multiple prop firm accounts?

Yes. Plus plan subscribers can connect up to three trading accounts simultaneously. Basic plan subscribers can connect one. You can switch between connected accounts from the trading platform at any time.

My prop firm uses a proprietary platform - can I still use EdgeFlo for journaling?

If your firm's platform is not MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader or TradeLocker (coming soon), you can still use EdgeFlo's journal by adding trades manually. Go to Journal and click Add Manual Trade to log entries with your entry price, exit price, stop loss, and position size. See How to Add a Manual Trade.

What happens if my prop firm resets or replaces my account?

If you are given a new account with new credentials, disconnect the old account and connect the new one. Journal data from the previous account remains stored but will appear under the old account connection. Export your data before disconnecting if you want to retain easy access to previous entries.
