Trading Crypto in EdgeFlo

This article covers how crypto differs from other markets in EdgeFlo, how position sizing uses Quantity instead of Lots, and what to expect in the journal and dashboard.

Crypto trading in EdgeFlo works differently from forex and indices in a few important ways: position sizes are expressed as Quantity rather than Lots, the market runs 24/7 with no session boundaries, and price formatting reflects actual crypto price levels rather than forex decimal conventions.

The discipline and risk management principles are the same. The math and the labels are different.

Opening a Crypto Trade

Click a crypto instrument in your watchlist to load the chart, then click Trade to open the execution panel. The panel for crypto looks different from forex or index trades in one key area: the position size field.

Position size: Quantity, not Lots

For crypto, the position size field is labeled Quantity. This reflects how crypto positions actually work - you are specifying how much of the asset you are buying or selling.

The risk calculator fills in the Quantity automatically when you enter your stop loss, the same way it calculates lot size for other assets. You will see your dollar risk and R:R displayed before you confirm.

Stop loss and take profit

Use the toggle to choose your preferred input method. Enter the exact price level for your SL or TP.

Note: Because crypto trades around the clock, setting a Trading Window guardrail is especially important. Without one, there is no market-imposed stopping point. Decide your trading hours in advance and enforce them through the guardrail - not through willpower at 2am.

Placing the Trade

When your SL, TP, and Quantity are set, the order button shows your full position before you confirm:

This confirms exactly what your broker will receive. After placing, trade lines appear on the chart at your entry, stop loss, and take profit levels.

How Crypto Trades Appear in the Journal

Closed crypto trades import automatically and appear with crypto-appropriate labels:

Guardrails and Crypto

All standard guardrails apply to crypto trades:

  • Max Daily Loss: Counts crypto losses toward your daily limit the same as any other market
  • Max Daily Profit: Crypto profits count toward your daily target
  • Max Trades Per Day: Crypto trades increment your trade counter
  • Trading Window: The window applies based on your configured hours — critical for 24/7 markets where there is no natural market close to force you to stop
  • News Block: Applies if a relevant high-impact event is scheduled during your configured block window

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my crypto position say Quantity instead of Lots?

Lots is a forex and CFD term that refers to a standardized contract size. Crypto positions are expressed in units of the asset itself 0 how many Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Solana you are buying or selling. Quantity is the correct label for this. It reflects how your broker and the underlying market actually price crypto positions.

Why is the risk calculator output a very small quantity for Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is priced at tens of thousands of dollars. Risking 1% of a $10,000 account ($100) on a 1,000-point stop means you are buying a fraction of a Bitcoin - something like 0.0001 BTC. This is correct. The math is different from forex because the asset price is so much higher. The dollar risk amount is what matters, and that should match your settings.

Does EdgeFlo show crypto in my performance dashboard?

Yes. Closed crypto trades feed into your dashboard metrics - net P&L, win rate, average R, and equity curve — alongside trades from other asset classes. You can filter by asset class to see your crypto performance in isolation.

What happens to my crypto trades if the market gaps significantly over a weekend?

Gaps on crypto can be large. Your stop loss is set at a price level, not guaranteed. If price gaps through your stop, you will be filled at the next available price, which may be worse than your stop. This is a broker-side execution reality. EdgeFlo records the actual fill price in your journal, which may differ from your planned stop.
