How to Add a Manual Trade for Non-Forex Instruments

The manual trade form in EdgeFlo adapts to the asset class you select. For most asset classes, position size is in Lots. For stocks, it shows Shares. This article walks through adding a manual trade for each supported asset class.

Manual trades let you add any position to your EdgeFlo journal that was not executed through a connected broker account — trades taken on an external platform, historical trades, or positions from an account you are not syncing. The form works the same way for all asset classes, with a few fields that adapt based on what you are journaling.

A complete journal is a complete picture. If you traded gold on a prop account you are not connected to, that trade belongs in your journal alongside everything else.

Opening the Manual Trade Form

  1. Select Journal from the left navigation bar.
  2. Click + Add Manual Trade (top right of the journal view).
  3. The manual trade form opens.

Selecting the Instrument

The first field is the instrument selector. Type a symbol or name to search.

  • Type XAUUSD or Gold to find gold
  • Type NAS100 or Nasdaq to find the Nasdaq 100
  • Type BTCUSD or Bitcoin to find BTC

Once you select an instrument, the form displays its full name and category below the symbol field. For example, selecting XAUUSD shows "Gold / US Dollar" with a Metals category label. Selecting AAPL shows "Apple Inc." with a Stocks label. This confirms you have selected the right instrument before entering any trade data.

How Fields Change by Asset Class

Position size field

The label on the position size field changes based on the instrument you selected:

Asset ClassField LabelExample Entry
ForexLots0.50
MetalsLots1.00
IndicesLots2
CryptoLots0.01
StocksShares50

The field stays as Lots for Forex, Metals, Indices, and Crypto. If you select a stock like AAPL, it will switch to Shares. You do not need to change anything manually — the form adapts to what you selected.

Price fields

Entry price, exit price, stop loss, and take profit all use format-appropriate placeholders based on the instrument you selected. Forex pairs show five-decimal formatting. Metals and indices display without trailing decimals. Crypto and stocks use standard dollar formatting. The placeholder is a guide for format, not a default value. Enter the actual prices from your trade.

Session field

The session label reflects the asset class:

  • Forex: Tokyo, London, New York, or Overlap — based on the time you enter
  • Metals: Market Hours
  • Indices: Cash Session
  • Crypto: 24/7 Market
  • Stocks: Regular Session

If session data is not reliably determinable for the asset class, the field is hidden rather than showing something inaccurate.

Costs

The costs section captures fees and overnight charges. Labels adjust by asset class:

  • Forex, Metals, Indices: Swap and Commission
  • Crypto: Fees and Funding / Overnight Fee
  • Stocks: Commission and Financing / Overnight Fee

If your broker only provides a combined cost figure, enter it in the most relevant field.

Entering Trade Data

After selecting the instrument, fill in the remaining fields:

  1. Direction: Buy or Sell
  2. Entry Price: Your actual entry price
  3. Exit Price: Where the trade closed
  4. Position Size: In Lots (for Forex, Metals, Indices, Crypto) or Shares (for Stocks)
  5. Stop Loss: Your planned stop level at the time of entry (optional, but enables R-multiple calculation)
  6. Take Profit: Your planned target (optional)
  7. Open and Close Time: When the trade was entered and exited
  8. Costs: Any fees or swap charges if known

Tip: Always enter the stop loss you had at the time of entry, even if the trade never hit it. EdgeFlo uses this to calculate your planned R-multiple, which feeds into your journal analytics and EdgeScore. Without a stop loss entered, the R calculation cannot run.

Saving the Trade

Click Save Trade when all fields are complete. The trade appears in your journal on the date it was opened. It is included in your analytics, dashboard metrics, and weekly AI report alongside all auto-imported trades from connected accounts.

After saving, the trade detail view opens. You can add chart screenshots, emotion tags, and a written reflection from there — the same way you journal any auto-imported trade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the position size field show Lots for crypto instead of a coin quantity?

EdgeFlo uses Lots as the position size unit for crypto, the same as Forex, Metals, and Indices. The lot size maps to your broker's contract specification for that instrument. Enter the lot size from your trade record, not the coin quantity.

I traded gold on a prop firm account that is not connected to EdgeFlo. Can I still log it?

Yes. Manual trades exist for exactly this reason. Select XAUUSD as the instrument, enter the trade data from your broker or prop firm statement, and save. The trade will appear in your journal and be included in your performance analytics.

Does the P&L on a manual trade calculate automatically?

EdgeFlo calculates net P&L from the entry price, exit price, position size, and any costs you enter. The calculation uses the instrument's contract size and point/pip value. If the calculated P&L does not match your broker's figure, check that your position size and costs are entered correctly. Manual P&L can also be overridden if you know the exact figure from your broker.

Can I add a manual trade for an instrument that is not in my default watchlist?

Yes. The instrument search in the manual trade form supports all instruments your broker offers, not just the default watchlist. Type the symbol or name to find it.

Are manual trades included in my EdgeScore and dashboard metrics?

Yes. Manual trades are treated the same as auto-imported trades for all analytics purposes — EdgeScore, win rate, average R, equity curve, and the weekly AI report all include them.
