The server name is one of the three details required to connect a MetaTrader account. If it does not match exactly, the connection will fail even when the login ID and password are correct.
What could be happening
- Wrong server selected (brokers often have multiple: Live-01, Live-02, Demo, etc.)
- Typo, extra space, or incorrect formatting in the server name
How to find the correct server name
- Open MetaTrader on your desktop or mobile device.
- On desktop: go to Tools > Options > Server. The server name is shown at the top.
- On mobile: tap the account name or go to Settings Account.
- Copy the server name exactly as shown. It must match character for character, including capitalisation.
Alternatively, you can input the first few characters into the Server field, and it'll show a dropdown with all the available options.
Common mistakes
- Demo server entered for a live account, or the reverse
-
Liveentered instead ofLive-02 - Server name copied from a PDF or email with extra spaces or line breaks included
What each error means
- Server doesn't match this account: The login ID and password look valid, but the server does not match. Double-check the server name in MetaTrader.
- Server not found: The server name entered could not be reached. Check that the correct live or demo server address is being used.
If the server name has been confirmed as correct and it is still failing, contact support.
