How to View Guardrails Violations in Your Trading Journal

When a guardrail is triggered, EdgeFlo logs it automatically. You do not have to chase down what happened -- the violation is attached to the relevant trade, summarized in your journal, and summarised in your Weekly AI-generated review. This article explains exactly where to find each type of violation and how to use that data to improve.

Where Guardrail Violations Appear

1. Discipline Summary

Discipline Summary appears on the Dashboard and Trading platform. It gives you a real-time view of your session. The panel shows trades taken versus remaining, your daily profit and max loss status, and any trading window or rule breaches that have occurred today.

2. Individual Trade Entries in the Journal

Every trade is auto-imported from your broker into the Journal. If a guardrail was triggered on a trade (for example, a missing stop loss, an oversized lot, or a max trades breach), the violation note is attached directly to that trade's journal entry alongside any emotions and tags you logged at the time.

To review it, open the trade in the Journal and look for the violation note in the trade data panel on the left side. This gives you full context: what the rule was, when it was triggered, and what the trade outcome was.

3. AI Reviews

EdgeFlo's periodic performance reports list your discipline violations over time and surface patterns in the data. For example, a monthly review might highlight that most of your losses occurred on days when you exceeded three trades. These patterns are difficult to spot trade by trade but become clear in aggregate, which is why the AI review layer exists.

Violation patterns in your AI reviews are one of the highest-leverage things to act on. A single rule change informed by a repeated pattern can eliminate a significant portion of avoidable losses.

Common Guardrails That Generate Violations

Guardrail What triggers it
Max daily loss Your cumulative loss for the session hits your configured cap
Max daily profit Your cumulative profit for the session hits your configured target
Max trades per day You attempt to open a trade after hitting your daily trade count limit
Trading window breach You attempt to open a trade outside your permitted session hours, or during a blocked news window
Risk per trade exceeded The lot size on your trade exceeds your configured risk cap
No stop loss A trade is opened without a stop loss attached
Oversized lot size The position size exceeds the maximum lot limit you have set

How to Investigate a Specific Block

If you see a "Trade blocked" message and are not sure which rule was triggered, check these three places in order:

  1. The on-screen block message: this typically names the specific guardrail that was hit.
  2. Your Guardrails settings: review your current rule configuration to confirm the thresholds in place.
  3. Today's Discipline Summary on the Dashboard: this shows the full picture of your session status, including which caps have been reached.

If you are contacting support about a trade block, include a screenshot of the block message and your current Guardrails settings. This allows the support team to confirm exactly which rule was triggered without needing to replicate the scenario.

Making Your Violation Reviews More Actionable

Tag emotions on every trade

When you log entry and exit emotions alongside each trade, Flo can correlate emotional states with rule breaks over time. For example, if anger consistently precedes guardrail violations, that pattern becomes visible in your AI review and gives you a specific thing to address.

Review by session

Use the Session Performance view to check whether your violations cluster around a particular session. If most of your trading window breaches happen during the Asian session, that is a signal to either tighten that window or add a no-trade condition for it in your Edge settings.

Consider enabling hard lockout

If you find yourself overriding guardrails frequently, you can enable a hard lockout in Settings. When a cap is hit, the Open a Trade button will be disabled entirely. An optional override toggle is available if you need to retain the ability to exit an open position manually.

If you made money on a day where you violated a guardrail, do not treat it as a green light to keep bending the rule. Getting rewarded for undisciplined behavior is one of the most common ways traders reinforce bad habits. Log it, note it, and hold the line tomorrow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see a history of all my guardrail violations in one place?

Yes. Your AI-generated reviews include a summary of discipline violations across that period. For a trade-by-trade view, you can filter your Journal entries and look for the violation note attached to each flagged trade.

What happens after a guardrail blocks a trade?

The trade button is greyed out and a block message appears on screen. EdgeFlo may prompt you to enter a reason for attempting to continue. That reason is logged against the session and will appear in your Discipline Summary and end of day review.

Will a guardrail violation affect my EdgeScore?

Yes. EdgeScore includes a Discipline component that tracks whether you follow your rules. Repeated guardrail violations will drag down your Discipline sub-score. Refer to the EdgeScore guide for a full breakdown of how the score is calculated.

Can I remove a violation from my journal?

Violation notes are tied to the actual trade data imported from your broker and are part of the audit trail EdgeFlo maintains for your review process. They are not editable. If you believe a violation was logged in error, contact support with a screenshot of the affected trade entry.
