Hard Lock Trading is an optional setting that permanently removes the "Trade anyway" button once a guardrail is breached. When enabled, EdgeFlo locks you out of trading for the rest of the day with no override. The lock resets at the start of your next trading day.
By default, EdgeFlo warns you when a guardrail is breached and gives you the option to override it with "Trade anyway." Hard Lock Trading removes that option entirely. Once you breach a guardrail, the system locks you out for the rest of the trading day - no override, no exceptions.
This setting is off by default. It is designed for traders who know that willpower alone is not enough and want their rules enforced at the system level, not just flagged as a suggestion.
What Hard Lock Trading does
When Hard Lock Trading is enabled and you breach any active guardrail, EdgeFlo does the following:
- Disables the "Trade anyway" button so the guardrail cannot be overridden.
- Locks the trade form for the rest of the trading day.
- Shows a lock modal identifying which rule was breached and explaining why trading is locked.
This applies to all guardrail types: Max Trades Per Day, Max Daily Loss, Max Daily Profit, Trading Window, and News Block.
Note: Hard Lock Trading affects your ability to place new trades through EdgeFlo only. It does not close open positions or modify trades that are already running. Any positions you have open at the time of the breach remain active.
The lock modal
When the lock activates, a modal appears showing which guardrail was breached. The message reads:
You cannot dismiss this modal and resume trading. The lock stays in place until your next trading day begins.
How to enable Hard Lock Trading
Step 1: Open Trading Preferences
Inside EdgeFlo, go to Settings and click the Trading Preferences tab.
Step 2: Enable the Hard Lock Trading toggle
At the top of the page, above the Guardrails section, you will see the Hard Lock Trading toggle. It is off by default. Click it to turn it on.
Step 3: Save your changes
Click Save changes at the bottom of the Guardrails section. Hard Lock Trading is now active for your next session.
Tip: You can turn Hard Lock Trading off at any time from the same toggle.. but the change only takes effect from your next trading day. If you are already locked, disabling it mid-day will not unlock your session.
When the lock resets
The lock resets at the start of your next trading day. What counts as your "next trading day" is determined by your Daily Reset Time in Settings. If you have not set one, the reset follows your configured timezone at midnight.
To check or update your reset time, go to Settings and review the Account tab.
Warning: If your timezone is set incorrectly, the reset may happen at the wrong time. Make sure your timezone is configured in Settings before relying on Hard Lock Trading. See Setting Your Timezone in EdgeFlo for instructions.
Frequently asked questions
Can I unlock myself mid-session if I change my mind?
No. Once the lock is active, you cannot override it or turn it off mid-session. This is by design. The lock resets at the start of your next trading day. If you disable Hard Lock Trading from Settings, the change takes effect the following day - it does not release an active lock.
Does Hard Lock Trading close my open positions?
No. Hard Lock Trading only prevents new trades from being opened. Any positions you have open at the time the lock activates remain open. You can still close or modify existing positions through your broker.
Does this setting apply to one-click trading as well?
Yes. Hard Lock Trading blocks all order entry through EdgeFlo, including one-click trades placed directly from the chart.
I set my guardrails but did not enable Hard Lock Trading. Will I still see the "Trade anyway" button?
Yes. Without Hard Lock Trading enabled, EdgeFlo shows a warning when a guardrail is breached and gives you the "Trade anyway" option. Hard Lock Trading is the only way to remove that override entirely.
