If EdgeFlo cannot connect your cTrader account or is blocking trades with the error "Operations through current channel is blocked by your Broker", your broker has restricted API access on your account. This article explains what causes it and how to resolve it.
EdgeFlo connects to your cTrader account through the cTrader Open API. This is the same channel used to sync your trades, display your account data, and submit orders. If your broker has restricted API access on your account, either of two things can happen: EdgeFlo fails to connect your account at all, or it connects and syncs data but blocks trade execution. Both are caused by the same underlying issue.
Which situation applies to you?
| What you are seeing | What it means |
|---|---|
| EdgeFlo cannot connect your cTrader account | Your broker is blocking API access entirely |
| Account is connected and syncing, but trades fail with "Operations through current channel is blocked by your Broker" | Your broker is allowing data access but blocking order execution via API |
Both scenarios are resolved the same way. Work through the steps below in order.
Step 1: Check your cTrader API access rights
The first thing to check is whether your cTrader Open API access is set to Trading. If it is set to Read Only, EdgeFlo can connect and sync data but cannot place trades on your behalf. In some cases, Read Only access can also prevent the initial connection from completing.
- Open your browser and go to https://id.ctrader.com/my/settings/openapi
- Log in with your cTrader ID credentials.
- Find the Access rights setting.
- If it shows Read Only, change it to Trading and save.
- Return to EdgeFlo and try connecting your account or placing a trade again.
| Access rights setting | What EdgeFlo can do |
|---|---|
| Trading | Full access: connect, sync data, place trades |
| Read Only | Partial or no access: connection may fail, trades will be blocked |
If Access rights is already set to Trading and the problem persists, your broker has applied a block at the account level on their backend. Proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Contact your broker to enable API access
Some brokers restrict API access on specific account types or apply blocks during account review, compliance checks, or by default in certain regions. These restrictions are not visible to you and can only be changed by your broker's support team.
Email your broker's support team and CC support@edgeflo.com so we can follow up directly if needed. Use this as a starting point:
I am using a third-party application via the cTrader Open API, and my account is
returning the error CHANNEL_IS_BLOCKED. Can you please check my account settings
and confirm that API access is fully enabled and that there are no compliance or
regulatory blocks on my account.
Common reasons brokers apply this restriction include:
- Regulatory or compliance restrictions specific to your account type or region
- API trading not enabled by default on certain account tiers
- A manual block applied during account review or verification
Once your broker enables API access on your account, you do not need to reconnect in EdgeFlo. If your account was already connected and syncing, trades will go through automatically. If your account was not connecting at all, try reconnecting from Settings after your broker confirms the change.
What to do if neither step resolves it
If your cTrader API access is set to Trading, your broker confirms API access is enabled, and the problem continues, contact EdgeFlo support directly. Include the following:
- Your broker name
- Whether you are seeing a connection failure or a trade execution error
- The instrument you were trying to trade (if applicable)
- A screenshot of the error in EdgeFlo
- A screenshot of your cTrader Open API access rights setting
- Your broker's response if you have already contacted them
FAQ
Can I still trade through cTrader directly while this is happening?
Yes. This error affects order placement and connection via the cTrader Open API only. Orders placed directly inside the cTrader desktop app or your broker's platform use a different channel and are not affected.
My account shows as connected in EdgeFlo. Why are my trades still being blocked?
Connection and order execution use the same API channel, but brokers can allow data access while separately blocking trade execution. If your account syncs normally but trades fail, check your API access rights and contact your broker to confirm full API execution is enabled.
Will this fix itself automatically?
No. The block is applied by your broker and requires them to make a change on their end. It will not resolve on its own.
Do I need to reconnect my account after my broker fixes it?
Only if EdgeFlo could not connect your account in the first place. If the account was already connected and syncing trades, it will work automatically once your broker lifts the block. If it was failing to connect, go to Settings and reconnect your account after your broker confirms the fix.
Could this be caused by EdgeFlo's guardrails or a discipline rule?
No. Guardrail blocks show a different message in EdgeFlo and are applied before an order is submitted. The "Operations through current channel is blocked by your Broker" error is returned by your broker after EdgeFlo sends the order, which means guardrails are not involved.
Does this affect my trade history or journal in EdgeFlo?
No. Trades you place directly through cTrader or your broker platform will still sync to EdgeFlo as normal, as long as your account remains connected.
