If your card was declined during EdgeFlo signup, this guide covers every common cause and how to fix each one - from incorrect details to bank blocks to unsupported card types.
Card declines during signup are frustrating, but most are easy to fix. This guide covers every common reason a card gets declined at the EdgeFlo payment step and what to do about each one.
Check your card details first
Before anything else, double-check that you've entered the following correctly:
- Card number: all 16 digits (15 for Amex), no spaces.
- Expiry date: month and year as shown on the card.
- CVV: 3 digits on the back (4 digits on the front for Amex).
- Billing zip code: the zip code registered to this card at your bank, not necessarily your current address.
Note: These details must match exactly what your bank has on file. Even a single digit off will cause the transaction to fail.
Common reasons cards are declined
Bank block or fraud flag
Your bank's fraud detection may have flagged the EdgeFlo transaction as unfamiliar. This is common when a bank sees a new merchant for the first time.
Fix: Call the number on the back of your card and let them know you're authorizing a charge from EdgeFlo. Ask them to clear the block. Then retry the card - it should go through.
3D Secure authentication
Some banks require you to approve online transactions through their app or via SMS. If this happened during your signup, the authentication may have timed out before you completed it.
Fix: Watch for a notification in your banking app or an SMS code during checkout. Complete it quickly - these prompts expire in a few minutes. If it timed out, retry the payment and complete the authentication immediately when it appears.
Card not enabled for online transactions
Some banks disable online or international transactions by default, particularly for debit cards.
Fix: Check your banking app for transaction settings, or call your bank and ask them to enable online transactions on your card.
Spending limits
Some cards have daily or online spending limits that can block even a $0 authorization hold.
Fix: Contact your bank to check and adjust your card's online spending limits, or try a different card.
Card is expired
If your card's expiry date has passed, the transaction will be declined.
Fix: Use a current card, or contact your bank for a replacement card.
International cards
EdgeFlo accepts most international Visa, Mastercard, and Amex cards. If your card is declining, your bank may be blocking cross-border transactions.
Fix: Contact your bank and ask them to enable international online transactions. Then retry.
Cards we don't accept
The following card types are not accepted for the EdgeFlo trial, regardless of the balance available:
| Card type | Examples | Why not accepted |
|---|---|---|
| Prepaid cards | Visa gift cards, Mastercard gift cards | Can't be tied to a verified banking relationship |
| Virtual cards | Privacy.com, Revolut virtual cards | Same as above - can't verify real identity |
| PayPal | PayPal account or PayPal card | Not supported by our payment processor |
| Digital wallets | Apple Pay, Google Pay | Not currently supported at signup |
Note: The card isn't charged during the trial - it's used for identity verification only. You need a regular credit or debit card linked to a bank account.
If nothing works
Try a different card - Visa, Mastercard, Amex, or Discover (both credit and debit) are all accepted. If you've tried multiple cards and are still seeing declines, contact support with the error message you're seeing and the browser you're using.
Tip: Try the payment in Chrome with all browser extensions disabled. Ad blockers and privacy extensions can sometimes interfere with the payment form.
Frequently asked questions
My card has plenty of money - why is it still declining?
Balance isn't the issue. Card declines are usually caused by bank security settings, wrong details, or an unsupported card type. Work through the checklist above.
Will a declined card attempt affect my credit score?
No. Authorization holds and declined transactions during EdgeFlo signup don't affect your credit score.
My bank says the transaction was approved but EdgeFlo still shows a decline - what's happening?
This is usually a 3D Secure authentication that timed out. The bank may show the hold as pending even if the EdgeFlo side rejected it. Contact support with a screenshot of the error and we'll investigate.
Can I use a debit card?
Yes. We accept Visa and Mastercard debit cards. Make sure online transactions are enabled on the card through your bank.
