Why Can't I Open or Modify Trades After Hitting My Max Daily Loss?

When your Max Daily Loss limit is reached, Edgeflo's Trade Guard activates a trading lockout. This prevents new trades from being opened to protect your account from further losses during the same session.

Why this guardrail exists

A single emotional session can undo weeks of disciplined execution.

Most trading accounts are not destroyed by one trade. They are destroyed by continuing to trade after a loss limit has already been reached.

The Max Daily Loss guardrail exists to prevent escalation and help traders maintain discipline.

What happens when the guardrail activates

  • The Open a Trade button becomes disabled
  • New orders may be blocked
  • Trade edits may be restricted

You can still:

  • View charts
  • Monitor open positions
  • Track your PnL

Your options after the guardrail triggers

Option 1: Monitor your open trade

You can continue monitoring your position normally. Charts, positions, and PnL remain visible even while trading is locked.

Option 2: Wait for the reset

The trading lockout resets automatically at your configured daily reset time.

After the reset, trading will be enabled again.

Option 3: Override the guardrail (if necessary)

If you need to adjust or close a position for risk management, you can override the guardrail.

  1. Click Trade
  2. You will see a popup saying "You've breached your trading rules"
  3. Enter your reason in the text box
  4. Select Trade anyway

This allows you to proceed with the trade despite the guardrail.

What triggered this?

The lockout occurs when your realised losses for the day reach the Max Daily Loss limit you configured.

Example:

  • Max Daily Loss = $300
  • Trade 1 loss = $180
  • Trade 2 loss = $140
  • Total realised loss = $320

Since the limit was exceeded, Trade Guard activates and prevents additional trading.

What counts toward the daily loss?

  • Closed losing trades
  • Net realised loss for the current trading day

Floating losses do not trigger the guardrail until the trade is closed.
