The Trade button in EdgeFlo grays out when a guardrail has been triggered. This article explains which guardrail fired, what it means, and what your options are.
When the Trade button or One-Click panel is grayed out, one of your TradeGuard guardrails has been triggered. This is not a technical error. EdgeFlo is doing exactly what you set it up to do: stopping you from trading when your rules say you should stop.
Which Guardrail Triggered?
Click the grayed-out Trade button. A pop-up will appear showing you exactly which rule has been breached, the current value, and the limit you set. You do not have to guess what triggered it.
| Guardrail | Alert message | What triggered it |
|---|---|---|
| Max Daily Loss | Max loss hit. Stop trading for today. | Realised losses today exceeded your set dollar limit |
| Max Daily Profit | Daily target hit. Lock it in and stop trading. | Realised gains today reached your profit cap |
| Max Trades / Day | Daily trade limit exceeded. Step away and review. | You have taken the maximum number of trades allowed today |
| Trading Window | Trade placed outside your allowed hours. | Your current time is outside your configured session window |
| News Block | Trade placed during a restricted news window. | A high-impact news event is within your configured block window |
What to Do When the Button is Grayed Out
The recommended response
Stop trading. The rule fired for a reason you set when you were calm and rational. Close your charts, open Sanctuary if you are feeling emotional, and log what happened in your journal before the session ends.
For News Block
Wait. The block lifts automatically once the news window has passed. You do not need to do anything. The remaining time is shown in the alert.
If you need to manage an existing position
You can modify stop loss and take profit levels on open positions at any time, even when the Trade button is blocked. The block only prevents opening new trades.
Overriding the Block
You can override any guardrail block by clicking the grayed-out button, reviewing the breach details in the pop-up, typing a reason in the Reason field, and pressing Trade Anyway.
Overrides are logged automatically in your Trading Journal and affect your EdgeScore discipline component. The reason you type is saved alongside the trade. This is designed to increase the friction of breaking your own rules, not to prevent you entirely.
Before overriding, ask yourself: is the reason I am typing a genuine rules-based reason, or is it an emotion I am justifying?
Adjusting Your Guardrail Settings
If your guardrails are triggering too frequently and you believe the limits are genuinely too restrictive for your trading style, adjust them in Settings > Trading Preferences > Guardrails. Make changes between sessions, not mid-session while emotional.
Frequently Asked Questions
The button is grayed out but I have not hit my limits. What is happening?
Check all five guardrails in the pop-up. It may be the Trading Window (time-based) or News Block that has triggered rather than a loss or trade count limit. The pop-up will show all active violations.
Can I check my current guardrail status before it triggers?
Yes. The guardrail panel in the Trading platform shows your current progress against each limit (trades used, realised P&L, session window status) so you can see where you are before hitting a cap.
Will overriding a guardrail affect my EdgeScore?
Yes. Guardrail violations that result in further losses reduce your EdgeScore discipline component. Winning trades placed after an override do not penalise the score, but the violation itself is logged regardless of outcome.
The News Block is still active but the news event already happened. Why?
Your news block has a post-event window configured in settings (e.g. 15 or 30 minutes after the event). The block remains in place for the full post-event duration. It lifts automatically once that window ends.
